I’m disappointed Rob Johnson has decided to step down early instead of finishing his term on the Seattle City Council. He has been a tireless and successful advocate for policies that address housing affordability, improve our transportation system, and tackle climate change. His vision and hard work will be missed.

That said, resigning now lends credence to our neighbors accusations that Rob didn’t listen. We all balance our family’s needs with our public responsibilities, but this is another mark against the City Council his successor will need to overcome.

I wish him the greatest success in his next venture and a quieter time with his young children. May he carry our community’s need with him, as he works to knit an NHL team into the fabric of our city.

An interim council member who will not run in the current election cycle should be appointed for the remainder of the term.
